Wanna keep tpi but will i need to burn a chip?
I have a 88 formula 305 5 speed and im just looking for a nice fully restored cruiser (not swapping motor to a 350). I am planning on boring the motor .030 over and a bigger cam ported stock 081 heads and maybe an intake base runners and ported plenum will i need to burn a chip with these mods or does it really just depend on the cam im not all that into tuning all i know how to tune is a carb so any help will be appriciated.

From what I understand, if you stay really mild with the cam, you will be ok. but without a tune you wont be taking full advantage of what those parts can do for you. Tuning isn't really hard it's just lots of time. I have started doing it and I love it. If you learned how to tune you could do anything you want to your motor and never have to worry about it.

You are going to need to have the car tuned. MAF can compensate some, but in order to have the car run right, you will need a tune. You can learn how to do it yourself, or you can pay somebody else to do it. It is worth the trouble. Stay away from mail order chips. Have somebody perform a wide band tune while driving the car under load on the street. It will make a huge difference and will cost far less than your rebuild.
