rust in dizzy??

ok guys, im replacing my intake and upon removing my mallory distributer, i noticed a build up of rust in there, on a cog type thing? my brother tells me its the rev counter pick up?? but a friend of mine says its the electronic points? is this normal? should i just clean it up before re-installing or get a new one? the cap and rotor arm may need replacing too as they look pretty shot!

Re: rust in dizzy??

I would give it a quick once over and check it for cracks around the 4 rivits..
If you have cracks replace the part.
