Is it really worth it?????
So I have a TPI 305 and I saw a turbo kit for about 600$ and I was wondering if it was really worth it to put a turbo on a freshly built 305. I mean is it really worth the time and money. Will the turbo on a 305 make the same release noise as a rice burner?

The motor hasn't been rebuilt yet I was just trying to get a feel for what direction I should go, try to build up the motor I have, or scrap it and get a bigger one? I am not looking to build a drag car, it is going to be a summer daily driver but I want it to have enough power to put those wanna be ricers to shame. So buying a Honda is completely out of the question, the only thing I like about imports is the release noise that their turbos make.

You'll have to add up all the costs of going turbo. It's not as simple as just bolting on the kit and it's done. You have to have some sort of fuel managment. And plus there's more to an install than what some new people to turbos think. You have to run oil feed tubes, all the intercooler piping, and figure out what to do with everything to make room for the turbo/turbos. The fuel managment and dyno time to get it all tuned is what costs money that alot of people don't add in.
The sound you are reffering to is the "blow-off valve". And yes... you can get an open atmosphere blow-off valve that will go psshhff.
I believe a turbo on anything is worth it. As long as it's done right. I also owned a 3.0 turbo supra. It was heavier than my Iroc. But it would sweep the floor with my Iroc. No upgrades except a good boost controller and a good headgasket.
But the advantages of a turbo are nice. You can run low boost and drive a pretty much stock car around. And with an adjustable boost controller turn it up and race at the track. Of course the more boost... the more gas it will drink. But make sure to do research on a full turbo set-up in a non-turbo car. It gets costly quick. Unless you're a budget used shopper like myself.
