are the injector clips necessary?

switching from stockers to some mustang ones i broke 3 of the clips while installing them. i heard the clips can be avoided, that bolting the rails in will do the job just fine. so if you could confirm or argue this i'd appreciate it. and where are these clips available to buy?

Re: are the injector clips necessary?

They can be bought from GM.
Do you really want to chance not putting on the clips when they're less than 10 bucks form GM?

Re: are the injector clips necessary?

If they have the slot I would say put them in. I just installed the type III injectors and they don't use them. Incredible improvement.

Re: are the injector clips necessary?

when i installed my mini ram the fuel rails did not have the provisions for the clip and i have seen no problems with it so far. i dont think you need them as long as you have good o-rings and the fuel rail is mounted tight.

The design lll are a newer design, the pressure from the fuel rail is what holds them in place

You don't need them. Just make sure you seat the injectors in the rail first, then seat the whole rail into the manifold.

actually they should be installed into the intake manifold first and then into the rail so they will seat properly.

All I know, is the first time I installed injectors years ago, I did that and the injectors did not seat in the rail right, and sprayed fuel everywhere. I had to take it all apart again.

It is WAY easier to install them in the rail first, then tap the rail in firmly with a rubber mallet. Then install screws. I have done it this way many times, and I have had no problems.

If you were going to use the factory clips, how on earth would you install the injectors into the manifold first? I can pretty much guarantee, that the at the factory, they installed the rail with all of the injectors already in place.

you do not use factory clips on the design lll's they were squirting fuel all over because it is a known fact that they are 1/8 to 1/4 shorter than stock if the injector has an additional spacer or ring on it, they will not leak, i never heard of hitting a fuel rail with a mallet!

Re: are the injector clips necessary?

I never use em. TPI or LT1 Ive done. Ford or GM or Aftermarket injectors.

You have bolts holding the fuel rails down, what do you think a injector is gonna just fall out?

Re: are the injector clips necessary?

Don't need them, but if you want to install them, it's not a bad idea. Especially if you have to remove the rail a few times for odd things. Also, you can use some silicon spray to lube them and be easier to work with without pinching or tearing any o-rings.
