1st fire up after engine overhaul
Hi fellas. I just overhauled my 86 IROC Z engine and installed a GM 14097395 HT383/Ramjet HR Cam. My retarded drunk uncle is helping me with the rebuild. He told me that once the engine has been staabbed that we would have to cut 2 wires out of the 4 of the distributor (ECM connecter) to be able to time the engine correctly with a timing light. Is this true or is he full of s***? checkout the pictures to see what wires im talking about. My uncle claims that with the distributor fully connected, the computer wont let us make adjustments, that it would just probably fire up then stall. Open to suggestions. Thanks guys .

if you look at your wireing harness on the passenger side engine compartment right on the firewall, you will notice one brown wire with a connector sticking out from the bundle. this is the connector you have to disconnect to stop the computer from adjusting your timing. while engineers can be stupid sometimes, they wouldn't make you have to cut your wireing harness every time you have to adjust your timing.

its black and tan and on the passenger side firewall, it should be protruding from a wire loom. you simply disconnect it to set your timing.
what your uncle means is that if you try to set your timing with that connector still connected. the ECM is gonna be controlling the timing, and itll be jumping around, and you wont be able to set your timing accurately
