How to get 350hp TPI

I have an 89 Iroc Conv. with a 305. The motor has 106k miles on it. I'm trying to make an everyday driver with 350+ hp and keep the TPI. What is the best way to do this? I've considered buying a 350 chevy create engine and adding my TPI to it with some upgrades if needed like a larger throttle body, elderbrock manifold, and larger runners, and headers. I'm not sure what upgrades are necessary. Or just keeping and rebuilding the 305 in it and upgrading the cam and heads and any other parts needed to reach my goal. Does anyone have any ideas on what would be the cheapest and most reliable way to reach my goal?

Re: How to get 350hp TPI

Read the sticky "Our quest for a better flowing TPI." You'll see there is no cheap way to get to 350HP with a TPI. Are you looking for 350 to the wheels? If so, that's even harder. You're also not going to do that with a 305.

Just read the sticky and you'll see what you need to do.

Re: How to get 350hp TPI

Sorry to say you can get 350 to the wheels out of a 305 TPI. The following is just a Ball Park not in stone. Also I am pricing it will the good stuff not mom and pop parts.

It will just cost you. You will be looking at lots of head work or new aftermarket heads. You will need a hot cam. And better think about a stronger bottom end as well. So far you are looking at $2000+.

Now that that is done move on to the Intake port as much as you can on the base to match better flowing heads. Or buy a high flow aftermarket base. Large tube runners and port polish the plenum. You are now getting closer to the 300HP, and cost has gone up to $3000+.

Next you will need to open up the thottlebody (TB) and forward to the air filters need I say K&N. Now add $250+ for what you will need here. Now were at $3250+ and still more to do.

Now we move on to the exhaust. DONT go cheep here or you will kill all you have spent up to this point. Get the best flowing headers on the market for our cars. Also best CAT you can buy and 3" back out to a good quality muffler. Now we are up $1400+ more to $4650 and still more to do.

Ignition will also need to be upgraded. Look at good wires and coil and finish it all up with a computer tune ball park on this $500+ for all this.

So for around $5000+ you can get to the 350HP to the wheels. It can be done cheaper; if you want the engine to last and pass smog laws then it will be close to the $5000 also cost depends on how much you can do on your own.

I am sure others here can give you even better advice on this than me. I myself am in the research and development stage of getting a better 305 TPI. Also don’t jump in and just start building have a plan and work it out on paper first before you start putting money out for the build.
