Super Vortec TPI intake
The project has started with installing new injector bungs that will move the injectors up .250 to get them out of the port. Now its time to weld up the roof to move it up like the injectors.

One picture of the port side with a quick hand grind to see what to set the mill at. The old port is 1.66 tall, the ported one will go 1.90 after the mill is done with it. My six hours today is done, time for other things.

Re: Super Vortec TPI intake
The taller Vortec ports are one of the reasons Jerry decided to raise the injector as much as he could and still retain the stock fuel rail setup. Edelbrock could have done the same thing.
So yes there is now plenty of room to open the port up to some serious air flow. The stock Vortec TPI intake manifold is pretty dismal as it comes from Edelbrock. I can't wait to see the dyno results of this motor.

It will now be around 2.2 when finished.
The compression will go up to 10.5 from 9.7.
The head flow will now be 270 cfm intake 218 exhaust (was 236-193) (Etec200's) The intake port is now 2.13 sq. in. (same as AFR 195 elims) was 1.77.
Stock Vortec head is 1.76
As bad as it all was, 12.80 @ !08. wasn't all that bad.
(motor in sig. is not mine)
Thanks Jerry all is greatly appreciated.

Update on this project, Fit the Plenum, runners and fuel rails and was able to move the injectors up .312 and still fit the plenum on with some mill work to fit the fuel reg and the front fuel crossover tube. Will post pictures of plenum after work today.

Pictures of the work needed to fit the SLP runners with the injectors .312 up, it's very little work to the plenum.

Update:
Had some time today to setup the mill and rough cut the roof on each port. You can see how much it will be moved.

Re: Super Vortec TPI intake
If you want them done like Alex's then there will be welding and the machine work. I will also need the plenum if you want that opened up like Alex's. Bottom line is yes I'm ready to go so maybe drop the runners and plenum off at Don's and I will pick them up this comming week and get started on them.

Re: Super Vortec TPI intake
I only need the machine work done on the runners only. The plenum is already cut open to match the runners, with the divider removed. I really only need the machine work on the runners, but you'll need to have them welded to do it. Also, I can do all the grinding and divider removal needed.
Thanks,
Jerry

Where are you getting the new bungs from? Are they an off the shelf part? Or something you had made up?

Followup:
The manifold was flowed this week.
It now flows 290 CFM this should work well since my heads flow 270.

Re: Super Vortec TPI intake
I went by Dyno Don's today to check things out. I found out that the bolt-on intake inlet radius did not quite fit the manifold port 100%. It was somewhat larger and exposed a lip. I believe this caused some loss of flow. If the inlet raduis had been of the proper diameter and matched the port better I believe Don's intake manifold would have passed the 300cfm mark.
"Mass produce for TGO members only please." No one could afford it as the man hours to get the Vortec intake manifold to this point is quite extensive.

My 10.5:1 383 is at 378 RWHP in the Van with siamessed SLP runners and an Edelbrock 3817 that has not had the injectors raised (YET!)

Re: Super Vortec TPI intake
I know this is an older thread but I'd like to chime in...
Ordered some Bosch Design III injectors which are 0.25" shorter than stock and noticed a 2nd O-ring at the tip to act as a stop and raises injectors for the fuel rail. Looking into the SDPC Vortec base... looks like most if not all of the injector bung can be ground off! My aluminum welding skills are nonexistent and this looks like an alternate way to free up some area.
