1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 for 3000?

Hey yal,
My mechanic came across a 1988 Pontiac Formula with 150k on the dial. It was a customers of his and he rebuilt the engine and the guy told him he could have the car, cause he couldnt pay for it or something. All things aside its got a rebuilt 5.7 TPI, new aluminum racing radiator, sphoon complete rear suspension, new computer, new headers through a y-pipe with two cats and dual flows with 3" tips. He wants to sell it to me, is it something worth snatching up?

PS, and the tranny was rebuilt about 6k miles ago, guy who gave it to him had the receipt to prove it.

PSS it is a vin verifiable 350 L98 and it comes with the WS6 suspension package. Its that metallic red color with black interior. If anything needs a new headliner, and two front seats. Has new carpet, dash, and two rear seats.

If you're familiar with this type of car, then it's a great price. If you're new to these, then realize there's no ABS, no traction control, and they can be a double handful in any snow at all. What you're considering will ride relatively harshly. I'd buy it in a second.

Wow, sounds nice to me.
Id definitely pick up a verifiable L98 car for 3k if rust is minimal!

'88 is a good year too.. 'cept for the CSI!

Pics or it didnt happen! (kidding)

Congrats if the car comes through, I love west coast cars
because most of the time the undercarriage of the vehicles are
pristine.

Re: 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 for 3000?

I think it was repainted, because the engine bay is black, and I see some over spray on the tail lights. I think someone tried to make it that dark red metallic color but it didn't work.

PS, I uploaded some more pictures, but maybe you cant tell. Look at the engine bay one, its all black. I think she was a repaint. When I take it to the body shop in about a month ill ask them what color she's supposed to be.

Re: 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 for 3000?

Love it!

Formula's are so nice.. I like ground effects myself and that is why
I am Trans AM guy.. but, the one thing ive always liked about the
Formula was its stance without GFX.

The hood bump is also a great trait, keep that hood!

I wouldnt sweat the paint even thought itd be cool to find
out the original color.. but, a blacked out engine bay did you
a favor!

What color you thinken about?

Re: 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 for 3000?

Im thinking about going black. Like stripping it all down and taking out the lights, new spoiler, and door panels, and having them paint it black. Then having them throw the metallic silver "FORMULA" decals on, blacking out the tail lights, and calling it a day.
