Replaced an intake gasket and now rough idle / running rich IDEAS?

Hey guys I have a 89 GTA which ran like a perfect purring kitten, but the intake was leaking a tad so we pulled the intake off and replaced the gasket.

The intake leak was not into the oil just leaking on the top of the intake.

Now all put back together and carruns really rich and idles really rough.

I have sprayed the TPI and intake area with WD-40 and Ether thinking possibly a vacuum leak but does not change idel at all (Like a vac leak would when hit with ether.

So wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to check for, I have changed the mass air flow sensor ($150) YIPES and no change, I don't want to toss money hand over fist chasing a bug.

I want to make sure is clear it ran LIKE A TOP prior to changing the intake so I hae to think is a vac line or something in the wiring upon putting back together.

Any info or input would be great!

Thanks in advance
Pete

how long was the car apart?. did you let the multec injectors dry? if so they absorb moisture and rust inside, then they stick. you are supposed to leave them in a jar of fuel when out of the engine for a while.

sounds like a vaccuum leak somewhere, i'd keep checking that.

I agree, sounds like vacumn. My car was idling wrong and the vacumn checked good. Turned out to be a cracked plastic vacumn line going to the heater/AC dashboard controls. That was the lne I was disconnecting to check vacumn, so it checked good but was leaking when reattached. Those plastic lines run under the plenum as well, so check them too.

Did you try plugging the intake vacuumn ports? The only one that you really need for trouble shooting is the fuel pressure regulator, the rest can be plugged. Dont forget PCV and power brake hoses.

one more thought.. the left and right side lower runner gaskets are different, if you put the wrong one on the wrong side there will be a vac leak, get some propane and check with a plumbers torch// don't lite it, just let the vac leak suck in the propane,, it will race up when you find the leak

I had my intake gaskets changed also, same problems
