AFR/Miniram?

Is anyone here having alignment issues with the new AFR 195 elim heads and a miniram intake? I went to install my intake today using the 1206 gaskets and noticed my intake isn't sealing on top of the head runners. Since my old setup, I have went from a 58cc to a 65cc head chamber's and a .029" head gasket to a .042" head gasket, so maybe with those two changes it has thrown off the clearance's, thanks in advance.

Re: AFR/Miniram?

what heads were you running before?
the afrs are not a raised runner but the top of the port is higher to promote more flow. most intakes arent tall enough. a vr jr dosent fit good but a super victor does

Re: AFR/Miniram?

I was running corvette 113 dports with a 1205 gasket. I also called TPIS today and talked to clay, he told me what you just said about the runners being higher on the heads and that could be part of the problem. I'm thinking I might just sell the Miniram if I can't get it to seal and buy the HSR, thanks.

The thing about it is, I'm running this same setup on the vette with the exception of they are the older AFR 195 heads but no alignment issues.

Re: AFR/Miniram?

Hrmm.. Is this a new afr problem? The whole AFR/MINIRAM combo has been going strong since the late 90s.

Re: AFR/Miniram?

You two have excellent taste in vehicles, cw I know your probably enjoying your car (congrats) but were you able to get that intake gasket part#? I think if I try a thicker gasket it could do the trick, thanks. I think I might try the FEL1266 gasket as it is the same dimensions as the 1206 but is thicker.

Re: AFR/Miniram?

Haven't talked to the builder yet, should happen tomorrow afternoon. Upon further inspection, it looks like two gaskets, not one. Can't get pics either, camera is at the house.

If you knew what I drove before the trans am and vette, you might not like my taste in vehicles.

Re: AFR/Miniram?

Got this from TPIS on CF. I had asked Tony from Air Flow Research regarding
the port height problem with the new eliminator 195s.:

----------------------------------------------------

Hi Joe-

Tony gave me a call this morning and I thought I'd jump on to give some info.

I saw your pictures you included and the Mini-Ram you have is our part # 500-505 which has a 1204 port size. The AFR 195 and larger use a 1205/6 port size.

The 1204 Mini-Ram has an additional machined surface to allow it to work with a stock type head that has a large valve cover rail. This is the surface you can see right above your ports. The 1205/6 Manifold doesn't have the extra machined surface and the manifold would meet the cylinder head right at the valve cover rail. This would obviously cover the larger than stock port you have with no issues.

The least expensive way to resolve your issue is to weld up your 1204 Mini-Ram and port match it for the AFR heads you have. The second would be to purchase our 1205/6 Mini-Ram which obviously costs more.

In conclusion, there are a few different Mini-Ram parts numbers available for various port sizes- 1204 (stock or up to 180CC or old AFR 190cc), 1205 (195-200 CC), 1206 (210-225CC), and Fast Burn (E-Tec and GM Fast Burn). We also have a LT1 Mini-Ram for big inch LT1s.

I'm happy to answer any questions anybody has about what Mini-Ram to use with specific heads or anything else you're wondering. Calling is always the best and quickest way to get info.
