impossible??

i have a 91 gta 5spd. I recently removed the air pump installed headers and march underdrive pullies.I CANT get a belt to fit! i have one close but where the belt rides the tensioner it also hits where it rides the water pump and smokes the belt.So i can go an inch shorter but then the tensioner is maxed out and i dont know how this will hold up over time.
Please help me ive got alot of money in those pullies and really dont want to take them back
THANKS

Re: impossible??

I'm guessing the underdrive water pump pulley is larger in diameter than the factory one. I've also got my smog pump removed, and using a stock length belt it is very close to the water pump, probably 1/2" or so. A shorter belt should move the tensioner pulley farther up, and away from the water pump pulley.

Re: impossible??

thank you, yes i guess the water pump pulley is a bit larger. I hadnt thought of that being an issue but makes sense now so i will try a shorter belt an see. I just dont want to kill the tensioner being so loaded
