knock sensor question

im having a hard time getting my old knock sensor out...so im stuck with the old one that is no good. i tried using a wrench and a socket wrench to get it out along with other things, but nothing seems to work. so my question is, is it safe to drive the car without a working knock sensor? i havent tried cranking it yet and wanted to check first.

Re: knock sensor question

Thats not so good, that sensor is protecting you against knocking and damaging your engine, so I wouldnt run without it. You could break someting, if the timing is way off and youd get heavy knocking/pinging and you have no sensor working it would not pull if timing , may resultning (worst case) melted pistons (example) if the timing is way off and the knocking keeps going on. Also A bad KS would make it detect knock always and that would make the ECM pull off timing all over the place = not good...

So you need to change that one out.

Re: knock sensor question

True but it does depend on how comfortable you are with the tune of the engine. As long as you're not far off, nothing breaks, and you don't romp on it, you should be fine until you can get a new one.

The smart thing to do would be to change it asap.
Just be cautious if you have to drive without it.

Re: knock sensor question

Kroil's the best (good luck getting any)
PB Blaster is second (available in most stores)

WD-40 is just smelly water.
