Ack! Vacuum leak :(
I am in desperate need of some tips and tricks on tracking down the oh so fun TPI vacuum leak. Sounds like it is near the rear center. (maybe fpr, egr, runners?) I have never dealt with a leak b4, so I am a little stumped on how to track it down and the syptoms of one. (Brother told me it was a vacuum leak) Any help would be great on this one.

get some WD40 or some starter fluid, and spray it with the engine running on the hoses or places that you think u have a leak, and if u DO have a leak, then the engine RPM's should rise indicating extra fuel (WD40) in the engine.

Better method... so your engine doesn't smell like WD40.. use Throttle body cleaner, spray it around the intake base, and plenum base, and any place which can suck it in... the RPM's will drop noticeably when you find the leak. Spray it under the plemum too... there are lines under there as well, i believe.

will it drop or rise?

Thanks for the help guys, found it using TB/FI cleaner. RPMs rose when I sprayed it near the front base of the drivers side runner. I thightened the outside bolts, but then my torx bit broke. (Damn 'Discount Auto Parts' brand tools, but I would rather break the bit than strip the bolt) Looks like I have to make a trip to Sears b4 I can get her running right. Thanks again.

You can also use water, I wouldn't be spraying ETHER starting fluid on my HOT engine. Not to mention what it does when it burns in the chambers. Water is the the most dense, and the RPM will drop when it fills the leaky culprit, untill the vacume pulls the water through. And no, the water will not harm the engine, in fact using hot water to pour into a hot high RPM engine will clean out the carbon deposits in the chamber to eliminate some bad detonation. Just make sure that the engine doesn't die, and you controll the RPM so that it's around 3500-4000.
