Building a new engine what should i change first?
I am gathering parts for my new engine. I have an 89 305 TPI at the moment. The specs on the new one are as follows: standard 350 rebuild (unsure if i am going with ported stock heads or sportsman II's) LT4 hot cam, LT1 intake. I know i should swap over to SD for ease of tuning purposes. Should i keep my current setup and swap the SD in now? With my current mods how will it run if i just use a standard SD prom? How does that build up sound? I am looking for ~300 HP

I wouldn't say that SD is used and so common for "ease of tuning" Personally I'd stick with maf if you're doing 300hp, Maf's just fine the only problem is the price of the sensor itself.
You can hit 300hp easy with a cam and nicely ported/machined stock heads, good luck!

The long term goal is to turbo this beast and since there are far more people that are working with the 730 ECM that can help me i figured it would be a good idea.

This is what I would add if I was you if you are going to use N2o or charge it try to get all forged parts pistones cranke I would at least up grade to the new style gm PM rods their only like 150 a set and are a lot stronger then the old stock rods. I would also change all bolts to ARP. Dont let your compresion get to high if you plan on using a turbo. I would also have it balanced and last I would use an aftermarcet balencer had a stock one come a part on me once it wasnt nice made a mess out of a vet. Hope this all make sence I just got off of work and it is 2 am so I can barly make out what the screane has on it.

I was already planning on building it with the ARP parts. The PM rods sound interesting, i will have to look at those. I am still undecided if i am going to build it for boost. I will probably get into enough trouble NA, let alone stuffed

Earl,
I found this at paceparts.com:
This kit includes 8 of P/N 10108688 high quality 5.70" length PM connecting rods which are used in the LT1 and LT4 Corvette engine in place of the old "pink rod" for higher strength and reliability. These rods can be used in competition or as street rods blow 500 horsepower. $232.46 Where did you find them for $150?
I believe these are what you were talking about. Can i use them even if they are for an LT1? Or is it the internal parts like these and the pistons are the same?

you will be limited on the MAF for turbo applications.
unless you can burn your own chips to compensate
for the fuel and ignition curves the SD can be
used. if you are going to turbo, but not now
your piston selection is critical. depending on
boost desired your compression ratio is important.
if you have a finished CR 10.0:1 with 64cc heads.
the 72cc will lower it to 9.1:1. to much for
8+psi boost.
youll have to run 8.5:1 and swap heads for the
turbo to make it right.
or... build another engine...
just some insight...
