TPI manifold, Computer and wireharness Question
I have a 87 Iroc tpi unit and computer that has the cold start injector. I also have a 89 wire harness that has no cold start injector. I can also get a 89 compter for pretty cheap from a friend. The question is can I make the harness and 89 computer work with the 87 tpi unit? The 87 tpi unit should be the same as a 89 except for the cold start injector. Right? Can I just eliminate the cold start injector all together with a block off plate and cap the end of the fuel rail? Then run the 89 computer and harness?

Re: TPI manifold, Computer and wireharness Question
86-89 TPI computers are the same, the only difference will be the memcal, or "chip". The 86-88 TPI computers (PN 1227165) are also troublesome, prone to cracked solder joints. I have 2 of them that suffer from this problem. I would probably buy the 89 computer, just as a spare if nothing else. You will need the 89 memcal for the cold start delete though, make sure it comes with the computer. One other problem you might run into is that the 87 engine harness is wired for v-belts, 89 for serpentine. Most of it is the same, but v-belts have the alternator on the pass side, A/C compressor on the driver side. 88 and up serpentine has them swapped, alt on the driver side, A/C on the pass side.

Yes, as mentioned above, just run the 165 ECM and the '89 chip...BUT...you have to have VAT's deleted from the 89 PROM, also, you will have to unplug the temp semsor for the Cold Start Vlave, or you'll be double fueling at startup...best to remove and plug the fuel rail and the plenum for the CSI.

Re: TPI manifold, Computer and wireharness Question
Good info but I just found out the tpi unit wont work On my 91 engine anyway because of the 45 degree bolt angle. So Ill have to sell my tpi unit and buy One with the 45 degree angle. So much to learn.

Re: TPI manifold, Computer and wireharness Question
Is there any advantage to removing the cold start injector and reprogramming the PROM on an 88 IROC?
