Fuel Pressure Help, please.
I am at my wits end and need a little help folks. Recently the old IROC would not start and I had no fuel pressure on my FP Guage. Wasn't getting the FP whine so I replaced the fuel pump and the relay. Anyway, now the car takes forever to start, you can actually watch the fuel pressure come up to 43ish and the car will start after a some cranking and letting off and getting the little ECM shot to the relay. The problem I think is the fuel pressure drops back down to zero as soon as I shut the car off...Leak down?
1. I read through some old post about leak down and such, focusing on the FPR and it looks like everyone says if the FPR is bad then fuel will come out when you pull the vacuum line off. Is there another way to check? At idle (750ish) is have 36psi on teh guage with the engine running....Remove vacuum line and it pegs back up to around 43 ish. Is my regulator bad? It seems to be working.
2. Should I see fuel pressure come up on the FP guage as soons as the key is turned to acc? I am not getting FP immediately when the key is turned to on. FP is only showing up after I actually try and start the car.
3. Oh yeh my fuel guage does not work anymore either but I don't think that has anything to do with it.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Re: Fuel Pressure Help, please.
have figured out a couple opf more things over the last 24 hours. If I get in the car and just engage the starter and continue to turn it over the car will not start. If I turn the key from ACC to start back and forth a couple of times the car will start up since the ECM is sendign the prime command and the fuel pressure is able to build a little.
The funny thing is I am getting low voltage readings on my altenator randomly now as well as my oil pressure starts off at a solid 30-40 psi at idle but once the car is actually running for a few minutes it will drop to zeroish. I know I have good oil pressure since I am not hearing any noise from the motor and I can see oil on the rocker arms. Could I have an ECm problem as well?
o'yeh when i am actually driving the car she runs just fine. Don't feel as strong as normal but runs just fine. I am going to pull the hypertech chip back out this evening and see if that help at all. But the oil pressure and voltage thing is puzzling as well.

Re: Fuel Pressure Help, please.
my oil pressure was doing the same thing. it ended up being the oil sender. i took it out and installed a manual pressure guage to check and it is fine. reads about 30 psi and drops just a few psi when hot. new sender is like 35bux at auto zone. located above oil filter in the block.

Thx JJ,
I am going to change the sender this weekend hopefully. Its dad's day so I am supposed to be doing stuff with the kids, so I may make them change it.
I will let you know how it works out.
