AFR heads on L98..

I am planning on putting AFR 190 heads on a stock L98 bottom end - What is the largest cam Ill be able to run safely? The heads have 2.02 valves but the reliefs in the pistons have to be smaller than that but I'd really like to change cams. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you asking about cam lift for clearance?

Streetable durations?

Or to much power ona stock bottom end?

Yes, how much lift and duration can I get away with before I get piston to valve clearance problems. What are some popular cams that would work without any interference problems with the 2.02 heads?

What intake are you using, the stock TPI? The cam will have to match the intake as well.

I know that it will need to match the intake, chip tuning, exhaust, gearing, etc... I just need to know what kind of lift(w/1.5) and duration(@.050) will work with a stock L98 bottom end and AFR 190 heads. Will the zz3 cam fit without clearance probs? the ZZ9? Compucams? Other cams? I read another post by someone that said they used some aftermarket cam with the same heads and bottom end I plan on using - but I cant remember where it was.
Assume I'll run a mini ram intake and 3:73's. What's the largest popular cam that would fit while maintaining min clearance on int. and exh.?

I'm running a ZZ3 cam with 1.6 roller rockers (.505/.540 lift) and AFR 190s (milled to 58cc) on a ZZ3 shortblock with no clearance problems, so you'll be just fine with 1.5 rockers on a ZZ3 cam. This is using the AFR springs that came with the heads (good to .550 lift according to AFR).

I plan on swithcing to an LPE 219 cam (.560/.560 lift with 1.6 rockers), and AFR told me I'll still be okay with their springs even though the springs are rated at .550". But I'm gonna change the springs to match the 219 cam just to be safe.

I'm not really sure on how big a cam you can run without problems but I've seen a few running the CC306 cam on a stock bottom end. It's a pretty big cam- something like 230/244 duration at .050" and lift somewhere over .550ish, I can't remember. I guess it depends on how much you shave your heads too.

But IMO you'll have plenty of piston to valve clearance with most of the common off the shelf TPI cams.

I'm running the LPE 219 cam describd above, AFR 190's w/ 58cc's, and flat top TRW forged pistons w/ valve reliefs, no problems.
