Ford 19# injectors
Hi, my injectors are leaking badly, and I can't afford the downtime of sending them to Cruzin performance. I've heard that I can use ford injectors, which are apparently much cheaper than the 800.00 canadian I'd have to spend on the ones for my car. Is this true? If so, which ones do I use? part #, etc?
Thanks, Jeff

Yes you can use ford 19lb injectors. They can be found in 302HO motors or 351 trucks.
Otherwisee you can check out your local speed shop and buy new ford motor sport injectors. I think they are about $400 CDN last time I checked.
I run ford 19lb injectors at 55psi and they work fine. At 55psi they simulate 22 lb/hr injectors. And yes I had them cleaned and flowed at 55psi to see that they did flow at that pressure. Block learn is 133!

Thanks, Mark. I was hoping I could use those. I checked at the dealer for motorsport ones, 150.00 each. OUCH. Calling around, no one seems to sell them. Any ideas? also, will they fit right in or do I have to do anything special?
Thanks, Jeff

Call you local ford dealers and see who is an authorized motorsport dealer. You have to buy the whole set of 8 to get the deal.

Thanks, Mark. I checked with the local dealer. With the part numbers from my old Motorsports catalogue (I used to have a bustang), the dealer wants $495.00 Canadian for the set of 8 injectors. Summit is still the cheapest at $239.00 American, INCLUDING tax and shipping to Canada. WHAT A DEAL, comparing at $ 800.00 Canadian for the injectors for "my car". I hope these F.O.R.D injectors will work with my 305, I have to wait until the 1st, when i get paid, to order them. ALSO, what about my cold start injector. Should I replact this also, or should I check it to see if it leaks also? The only other concern I have is- does the "impedance" of these injectors make a difference whereas the computer is concerned? and is it different for the FORD injectors?
Thanks guys,
Jeff

I believe the ford injector (motorsport) are high impediance ones, like the bosch ones. You only see the low ones in the really big injectors.
Make sure the ford book says they will fit a stock stang and they should be ok.
Cold Start. They are prone to leaking, and you are not going to find a new one at GM Anymore. I lucked out and found one at a local parts place. It the box was a bosch cold start injector. Must have been stock bought out from GM or something.
Everyone will say to convert to a 1989 prom setup and eliminate the cold start. Good idea but you need a custom prom. Perhaps something you want to look into doing yourself over the winter. It's one my list of things to do.

Since the Ford inj are rated at a lower pressure{36 psi i believe} iwould think at 55 psi they would be a little more than 22#?

Well the rating of fuel injectors is a strange thing. Unless you see all the stats, it is hard to tell. I believe it is safe to say the Ford 302HO injectors are 19 lb/hr injectors rated at what term as the standard 43.5 psi. I say this, since I did flowbench the set I run.
I also believe it is true that most ford systems are at a lower pressure that 43.5, but that should not be what they are rated at.
The best thing you can do for yourself is research the injectors you are looking at buying. Someone at Ford should be able to show you proof as to how they were rated.
Look in your local yellow pages under fuel injection. If you can find a show that cleans fuel injectors, you might have a source for some info.
Somewhere I have the calculations for converting the flow ratings into lb/s per hour from cc's per sec. Most flow benches will flow into graduated cylinders for a period of time and a certain duty cycle. If your run the injectors at 100% duty time for 10 or 15 seconds, you can figure out how many cc's in an hour. Then all you need to do is convert cc's to lb's.

So is it true that a SVO 19 lb/hr injector flows more than GM's Rochester 19 lb/hr injectors? What would you need to get an SVO 19 to flow 22 or 23 lb/hr? Thanks Derrick
