383 TPI...What Cam?

I plan on swapping a 383 TPI for my 305 TBI. I've never built an engine so it will be my first time but I'd like to do things relatively, "Right". I've heard that you have to get a cam that makes the computer happy, BTW I have 91 RS. So what exactly is the best cam for a 383 TPI. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am in the process of building a 383 SuperRam car. Here is the setup I decided on...keep in mind...the cam you choose should compliment the heads you choose.
- Rebuilt 383 with forged flat top pistons
- AFR 195cc aluminum heads
- LT4 Hot Cam
- Super Ram intake setup
- 1 3/4" SLP Headers
I am looking at around 10.1 compression....probably about 480-520hp(??) Should get me low 12s or high 11s...and will be a daily driver. But I, along with many others (those who convinced me) highly recommend the LT4 Hot cam.

SLP Headers Coming
Dynomax High Flow Cats Coming
More to come.

Speed density or MAF? Either way, I dont think it will run at its full potential with a stock chip.

The LT4 HOT cam is a good choice. So is the LPE 219 cam.

100% true. which intake are you going with, long tube runner, super ram, or mini ram? if your going with the super ram id run the LPE 219. i have the LT4 hot cam waiting to be installed, but im going to siamesse my manifold and runners at the same time so it will pull past 4800rpm.

What do you mean? Are you saying a Super Ram wont pull past 4800RPM? Dont see why the LPE cam would be a better choice instead of the LT4 cam if youre running a super ram...might be missing something though.

So is the super ram the better choice. I don't know much about TPI.But it sounds like the super ram w/ the LPE 219 cam is good set up. Thanks for narrowing things down guys. Oh yeah, I am going to have a custom chip made.

I am running a long tube 383 tpi with 9.6:1 compression, edelbrock alum heads, and a 204/214@0.050 .425/.440 lift 112 lobe seperation hyd flat tappet cam. I really love the powerband, but it took 20 reburns of my EPROM to get everything right. My engine is in a 4x4 Jeep with 35" tires so I wanted strong lowend torque and a smooth idle. It pulls real strong up to 5000rpm right now with stock runners, but I am changing to AS&M large tube runners shortly for a little more pull on top.
