When I come to a stop or coming to a stop, I hear my fuel pump whining, I thought maybe the filter was clogged. It was, runs alittle better but fuel pump still whines when coming to a stop and idles rough....any help would be appreciated. 305TPI

that whining is either the sound of your fuel pump pushing air, or the pump is going out. chances are, if the tank is full and you still hear the noise, you'll need a new fuel pump pretty soon. test the pressure to make sure it's up to snuff.

Are you positve it is the fuel pump? Could it be the rearend whining as you come to a stop?

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT
1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.
future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames,
T-56 almost ready to go in, TPI swap coming up
Wifes new car:
95Z28, AT, leather, T-tops bone stock for now.
future mods:
header to tailpipe replacement and a cold air intake. Then I am just going to leave it alone

Rotn,
When you go to the parts store, make sure you get a fuel pressure gauge. You really don't want to replace the fuel pump if you don't have to - unless you are into self-inflicted pain.

Gotta agree there!! I thought I could replace the fuel pump in my '86 IROC- WAS I WRONG! There are no access doors behind the back seats. That means you have the let the rear end loose and hang or remove it, remove the exhaust, then remove the tank (remember ~8 lbs per gallon, so make sure it's empty!). After that, then your can replace the fuel pump.
Unless you have a lift system, save yourself the pain- pay a garage to do it. I did. Cost me $591.75, but I also had them put Autolite spark plugs in for me too (plug replacement is a bitch too- just making it easy on myself)....

Thanks for the input guys...yes it turned out to be a bad fuel pump.....and yeah...what a bitch to get the tank out, had to drop the rear end. I checked on the price after realizing I had to change out the pump....400.00. F that. I would rather do it myself, save the money and most important, knowing it was done right...clean up, painting the heat shields...ect.
