question about EGR

I plan on have ing no emissions stuff on my car. What does the EGR hook into? The heads I have do not have Exhaust crossovers. Is this a problem?

------------------
I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
SLP headers, completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, NEW PLAN IN THE MAKING:
BUILD A WILD CHEVY 302 JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL Z28 HAD

I'm running a car without the EGR, it runs fine that way. At first I was just running the stock chip, then I got an aftermarket one with the EGR switch turned off, now I'm doing my own. It never set a code with any of those chips either. It kinda depends on the ecm as to how the ecm might react, I have disconnected the EGR on both 86 and 88 setups and it never set a code, but some people have gotten a code from doing so. From what I hear the SD cars are consistent about setting a code with it disconnected, so if you are running that you will probably need to take care of that problem in the chip.

I was hoping Vader would reply, he likes 86 chips

Theres a TSB about the 86 chips, if it was made before a certain date (which I cant remember, its on the boards somewhere) then it should be replaced with a newer one, there are some bugs in it that cause some driveability problems.

I was looking over the ECM and it has a sticker on it that says Remanufactured by GM think that would be ok?

there is a way to tell by looking at the carrier for the chips. On the carriers that I have there is a 4 didget number looks something like 8611 or 86xx the 1st 2 didgets are the year, the second 2 didgets are the week produced. looking at my carrier the numbers on the chips are 8612 & the carrier is 8611. Therefore the carrier was made the 11th week of 86 and the chips were made the 12th week of 86.

To get to my point, something like the first 45 weks or something many of these chips will throw bogus codes, cause they are screwed up. GM never did a recall because not all of the chips would do it.

The car seemd to run fine with the bugus chip but it is anoying and concerning to get the check engine light flashing at you once in a while. Besides my 89 Chip outperformed that 86 chip hands down.

Did i get it right Vader?

John

What chips would be compatible with the ECM? any thing below 90 and above 85 with TPI right? So should I look for an 89 chip? What about an aftermarket chip? Should I get an aftermarket 86 or 89? And I know the best aftermarket chip is one made for your car but for now I want something to make the car run good until I get the cash to have one done.
