Dazed and Confused...

I posted this on CamaroZ28 as well, but I'm hoping you guys might have some insight on this as well...I just got back from the track and I'm confused to say the least...A nice cool night and I thought I would try out the newly rebuilt and upgraded tranny at the track. To my dismay I pulled a 10th and 4mph SLOWER than before the rebuild! WTF!!! And since the last track outting, I opened up the holes in the airbox more.

How can I be running slower??? My best tonight was about 15.2 and 88mph. I don't get it! I had a friend of mine run the car and he pull pretty much the same, so I know it's not me. Why am I not in the high 14's? My mods are below, please feel free to shoot me any advice or criticism you have. I'm borderline on selling the car now if the money I'm investing doesn't start paying off.

Car: Damn
Engine: This
Transmission: New Stuff
Give that tranny a while to break in if it is really fresh. They are tight after a rebuild and will suck some extra power.
I had mine rebuilt and it was very noticably slower that before. After a few weeks it felt just as fast, and proved to be quicker than before the rebuild. I didn't run right after the rebuild so i can't say as to how much slower it was.
Also check the TV cable and make sure it is adjusted correctly, if your car is shifting too early or late it can affect performance dramatically.

Best with 305-15.0@93mph
Best with 356-13.7@101mph

Don't get me wrong but you have basically a stock engine and the time your running is about right.
Now you have great suspension work and that will help you if you modify the engine.

I would say do the free mods first like porting the plenum and throttle body bypass.
Now headers are a good thing to start with adding something new and guys have gotten some good results with them. SLP 13/4" are real good for 350's.
Then try getting some aftermaket runners and/or intake manifold. This will free up more air to the heads and should give you more HP. However you heads will be your next spot to attack after that.

Also what gears are you running??

MSD 6AL
Custom DUAL Exhaust
Edelbrock Performer 6085 Aluminum Heads
ZZ9 Cam
TPIS Level 5 Chip
And Free mods.
(stock intake, runners and suspension)

13.879 @ 98.90 mph (with 2.77 gears!)

I agree I think headers would help. They got me about 2 mph in the 1/4.didn't do much for my E.T. a little but they were one of the mods I have done

Thanks for the responses guys.

87Fake: It's got about 1000KM on it since the rebuild and it pulls much harder than before so I think I'm past the break in stage. I've played with the TV cable and she shifts perfectly...right around 5000RPM under WOT.

Ski89: I agree the engine definately needs some more work...the plenum I'm hoping to attack over the winter while it's in storage. And headers I've been considering but don't have the money for them right now. Hopefully next spring. I've looked at the SLP ones and the Hooker headers as well. I'm running the 3.27 gears (borg-warner diff).

General Question: I want to pick up a MSD 6A box and coil over the winter, can I expect any gains out of this. Some people said it will smooth out the idle, but I'm not too worried about that.
