new motor burning oil
Has anyone had a problem with their pcv system sucking oil out of the valve covers and into the intake?
I have a new motor that has been burning oil at 4500rpm and above and there is oil ash on the plugs. After doing a compression check and finding a consistant 180psi on each cylinder I dont think that the rings are bad.
The PCV hose that goes from valve cover to THrottle body has a good amount of oil in it so I hope thats all it was. ANy Ideas or passed occurances of PCV being oil thirsty?

Thats a pretty heavy cam, are you running 1.6 RR's with that?
Check and make sure the PCV isn't damgaged
and replace it
thats my best bet

THE ROCKERS ARE 1.52
AND YES THE CAM WAS A SMALL PROBLEM BUT IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT SOON.(GEARS STALL AND MASSIVE PORTING IN THE NEAR FUTURE) THAT IS MY PLAN TO GET THAT CAM THE HIGH END THAT I THINK IT NEEDS. RIGHT NOW IT STUMBLES OVER THE 2.73 GEARS AND STOCK CONVERTER AND AS SOON AS THE FUN BEGINS ITS OVER AT AROUND 4500.
GUESS THATS WHAT I GET FOR SPENDING NEW RUNNER AND BASE MONEY ON THE HEADS.

Have you checked the operation of the PCV valve? Also, what kind of valve covers are you using? I had the same problem with a certain brand of aftermarket valve covers... It turns out that the baffles were a poor design and when I installed Corvette aluminum valve covers (or any stock GM) which have a good baffle design, the problem went away.

the valvecovers are chrome edlebrock. they are a little bit taller than the stock ones were but the baffle on the inside looks the same. I just recently replaced the PCV valve.

to bad I work for edlebrock..... just kidding.
The reason I went with these was the stock ones were center bolt and the supports inside got in the way of the roller rockers.
Turns out the edlebrock ones were too tall and I didnt have the heart to take a hammer to fresh chrome so I had to cut the post on my alternator to keep it from hitting the valve cover. I'd imagine it would have been quite a light show.

I have Crane Gold full roller rockers. They are 1.5's, so I'm not sure how much wider (if any) the 1.52's are. The original stamped steel rocker covers (GM) would not fit for me either. So I tried the Edelbrocks (chrome but not tall) and they fit. Then I had the oil in the intake problem (noticed it while removing the plenun/runners). So I bought GM corvette aluminum valve covers. The only thing I had to modify on them in order to fit was to remove the oil drippers inside the valve covers. I used a milling machine (a little easier and neater), but a die grinder will also work.
Inside my Edelbrock covers the "baffle" is only a U shaped bent piece of sheet metal retained with two push pins. This, compared to a GM baffle, is not very good at controlling oil at higher rpm's. FYI... a guy at the machine shop which I use is the one who informed me of this problem which he had seen in the past with Edelbrock's.
