305 upgrade, want more Horsepower for less

I have an 89 v8 305 Camaro, and I want to do something to upgrade and give it more power. I don't want to swap out the engine as its pretty good shape. But I would like to turbo charge or supercharge. But I'd rather not do it myself. As I don't really think I have enough knowledge too. Anyone have any good ideas as what to I can do. Don't want to spend to much money.

The best first thing you can do to our engines is the exhaust. Go from headers with a 3" outlet to a 3" cat and 3" back to the muffler to what ever outlet you want either dual or single. Then for easy free stuff gut your airbox, adj yout TPS, port your plenum and intake. Then you can do other things that are easy and not so expensive like STB, SFC, adj panhard rod, lowering springs, AFPR, Underdrive Pulleys and a really good tune-up. If you have an automatic you can get rid of your peanut cam and put in a good cam with higher lift and what not. Well there are some good starters for you. Then when you have good knowledge you can supercharge or turbo it if you really want to. Also look in the Board Archives and Technical Articles for good resources. Happy motoring.

Yeah, one of our local posters here, "Willie" has a 305 which he has running low 12's with his hs ATI PROCHARGED 305. He added a cam, and L98 heads.

Not bad at all, i think my stock 305 runs the 1/4 in 16 second. Something stupid like that. A new geo metro is faster in the 1/4.

Still, with money, it looks like you can make the 305 perform quite nicely! I saw camshaft in summit a few issues ago, where they were selling a camshaft made for 305 TPI engines, which produced "40" more horses they claimed, in conjunction with an ADS superchip. I have also heard good thing about throttle body airfoils, the best use of them is after you add a supercharger though.

The 305 is a pretty expesive rock to work with, i know, i own one. I just wanted you to know that if Willie can get a "I managed a best E/T of 12.06 and best mph of 115.94" out of his 305, there is ways to get the 305 motor to perform.

The thing with Willie though is he has done some extensive work to his car not just a cam and heads to make his car a 12 sec car. I am pretty sure my car is in the mid 14's with little work done to it. Pretty much bolt-on parts no porting or anything like that. If you did want to turbo or supercharge it the smaller engine is good to use. Skulte (he has a Twin Turbo 355) told me that there will be a little less chance of detination with the smaller engine. So if you have the money you probably could get your car moving pretty fast.
