HELP! Installed AFPR, engine won't run. 89 350 iroc
Can someone help me out with this?
I took off the plenum and installed a BBK AFPR. There was something funky about the pressure. I could completely unscrew the screw or completely screw it in and the pressure would read the same (around 60 psi). Anyways, the car wouldn't run. I took the plenum off again and reinstalled the factory Fuel Pressure Regulator. I was completely shocked to find out that my Camaro wouldn't run with the old one either. Now, by "not running" I mean it will start and die right away. If I give it a lot of throttle (3/4) it will rev up and it I'm able to keep it up above 3500 rpm although it's not easly kept. If I go down even a bit on the throttle it dies right away. My car is completely. I just bought it two weeks ago. I ran like **** although it had only 60K+ miles. I changed plugs, wires, cap/rotor, put in K&N and advanced the timing to 10 btdc. Before it was set to 2 atdc. I run on 93 octane so there is no knocking or anything. After I did all of the above (except for the afpr) the car ran 6 mph faster on a quarter mile and that was when I tested it on wet pavement. It just ran unbelievable comparing to how it ran when I bought it. But anyways, this is all the "not stock" stuff, the biggest timing (already played with it after the crap with afpr) and the K&Ns. So.... based on the above can someone help me? I really need this thing running asap cause I got it in someone else garage far from home (asked to use the garage for a few hours to do the afpr) and now I'm stuck in it and taking their garage. I will appreciate any help very much. OH, ONE MORE THING, not sure if it's important. The TEMPERATURE GAUGE goes ALL THE WAY UP when I crank the engine. Only when I crank it. Maybe it's something with the electric but this was definately not happening before me installing the AFPR. Thank you very much for any help.

think over your steps....what exactly did you do while installing the AFPR? make sure everything is where it is suppose to be. Make sure you have no vacuum leaks, and the TB is on the plenum good. make sure all the wires/sensors are plugged in. Make sure the TPI intake boot is all the way on the TB
There shouldnt have been any problems by just changing the AFPR as long as you didnt touch anything else

I took extra care making sure everything is plugged in. I spent 8 hours yestarday checking everything around the plenum. I don't know anything about electrics and I'm thinking that maybe some wire, like ground or something go accidentally damaged but I don't see anything out of ordinary when it comes to wires or plugs. Or maybe some sensor got damaged, but how/why? Thanks for your reply.

Little more info. When I turn the ignition to "ON" the number 1 radiator fan comes on (even though the car has been in garage the entire night). Seems like some kind of a short circuit. Also I check the trouble codes and I got 42. According to Haynes manual: 42- "Poor electrical connection, open or short in circuit; defective ignition module, defective ECM". I know pretty much nothing about electrics/electronics. Any help will be greatly appreciated (especially detailed help, if anyone knows what to do then please be specific). Thank you.

The ignition module - in the distributor.

MP81, can you tell me how to test it to see if it's bad? Thanks! BTW, I had to vacan the garage and that meant I had to drive home. Driving it was hell but after 3 minutes I got a check engine light. I checked it when I got home and it said the mixture was lean (code 44). MP81, if you know how then please tell me how to test the ignition module. Thanks a lot!

I would just get a replacement from Autozone or something. They're around $25 bucks or so.

I hate to be a pain in the butt but how sure are you that this could be the ignition module? I am asking because I read on another website that if the ignition module goes bad the car will not start at all. Is it possible that the module is dead or semi dead and the car will still "run" the way mine does? Thanks!
