Everyone with SVO injectors, inside please...

I just installed the 24lb SVO injectors in my ZZ4TPI motor. Do yours tick louldly? I remember taking my new 91 Z28 back to the dealership for what I thought was ticking lifters but found it was just the injectors. It just seems the SVO's are a little louder than the stock GM LT1 24lb'ers.
p.s. I like the SVO's better fit wise then the GM injectors.

Yes, mine tick loudly, so much that I adjusted my valves thinking that's where the noise was coming from.

HAHAHA, I adjusted my lifter on the drivers side yesterday! Why didn't you tell me LOL!
|Car is running much better, maybe still rich, 108 Block Learn, 128 under hard acceleration. Maybe I have to turn the pressure down a tad on the SVO's. It's set at 42psi now.
Oh, don't put those GFX on your car, it will ruin the sleeper attitude!

I had the same loud ticking problem when my ZZ4 went in. Turns out if you put a thin spacer (very thin washer) under the fuel rail between the rail and the intake manifold it will raise the injectors out just a hair and the loud ticking sound will be gone. This happens with aftermarket intake manifolds sometimes. You have to use a very thin washer so the injectors are still seated far enough into the intake manifold. I've been told that they tick loud when the fit in the intake is very tight and/or too deep. I was also told that if the fit is too tight the injector may bind up and not even fire but that's rare. All I know is that this tricked worked for me. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. The injectors do fit really tight in the Edelbrock Intake. I will put the spacers back in under the fuel rail that I had before and that will probably quiet them down a bit.

Rob,

Be careful. Seriously. You are running way too rich. 108 BLMs are the absolute limit of adjustability for the ECM (without PROM tweaking). Basically, the ECM is seeing a rich condition and attempting to adjust. But, during this adjustment period the ECM reaches a point where it cannot adjust anymore. That point is at 108 BLMs (albeit there is still a tad bit more adjustability with the INT).

You need a PROM change. There is no other way around it.

Furthermore ... at WOT the INT will be at 128. That means absolutely nothing. The ECM is in open loop and not looking at the O2 sensor.

Trax,
Actually, a friend reburned a stock MEMCAL for me, we adjusted the TQ lock up speed, changed injector size to 24lb and played with the fans a little. I just haven't put it in the car since I got it back on the road after the bad injector problem. I'll see how that one goes. Thanks for the advice.

A quick point: SVO injectors are rated at 36psi, GM injectors are rated at over 40psi. That could be a good part of your rich condition.
