Lowest my TPS will go is 0.94 volts? VADER?

I went out and checked out my TPS and the lowest the value would go was 0.94V. It is going above 4 volts so I thinK it is just bad at idle if that is possible? I don't know much about the TPS. I ordered a new one anyway just to be sure. It did bring my Idle down when I adjusted it but it is still high.

Vader....I did check the bore and everything is tight and i don't see anything that looks like it is binding.....It seems to be running rich when I am driving at low speed.

I think you have the non adjustable TPS.... I may be wrong, I'm not sure. If it is non adjustable, the ECM sees the lowest value and uses that as the baseline, IIRC.

PW,

Kevin nailed it. You have a non-adjustable TPS (1990 and newer) and accordign to my data, anything below 1.0VDC at idle position is acceptable, but you are pretty close. The ECM will "learn" the base position when the ignition is turned on, and calculate the throttle position from there. A new TPS might read a little differently, but may not fix the problem. Before replacing the TPS, you might try to loosen the mounting screws and take up all of the slack in the mounting holes to lower the voltage a bit.

I did that yesterday and when i came out of the parking lot at work I almost put it in the ditch!! It has been flooding I guess. The car has way more power!!! I have another one on order that I will replace the old one with. I want to make extra sure because adjusting the slack made the car idle fine again. It is probably the original and it has 200,000KM on it. It is probably due for break down!!

So will the new TPS I get be adjustable or is the 91 style self adjusting like you were talking about? Everyone always talks about adjusting them and the book doesn't even mention anything about a non adjustable one? Thanks for your help guys!!! I would be up the creek without a paddle if it wasn't for this board!

so if you have a 90 or newer car you cant adjust the tps. And the way to make it better is to adjust the slack. But what slack are you adjusting. Somone try to explain this to me Thanks

The holes in the TPS for the screws are a little bigger than the screws themselves. It allows you to adjust it a slight bit. By pushing mine down as much as possible I fixed the idle problem. I think the TPS is starting to go bad though so I am going down right now to pick up the new one.

Side Note: Someone might want to put this info in the tech artical on the board. If it wasn't for u guys I wouldn't knoow anything at all.

If you have any room in the holes from side to side you should push it forward too.... that will bring down your idle voltage a bit, maybe just enough to make you comfortable.
