I pieced one together from Pepboys. It cost me 50 or 60 bucks to put together. Nothing fancy, just a knock off K&N filter, with some chrome plastic. Looked pretty cool, but I went back to the stock look, and got the parts off a junk yard trans am.

Re: Which cold air kit?

SLP Cold Air Induction Kit is probably your best bet for something pre-made. You can check out a link here; http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...06&BIG=21006-1

I currently have one for sale, PM me if your interested.

Re: Which cold air kit?

+1 for the SLP CAI. I have it on mine and looks almost stock if that's what you're going for. Don't buy a new one though. The minimal gains aren't worth the $300 that SLP wants for it. I got mine used on ebay for about $70.

Re: Which cold air kit?

I PUT A K@N FILTER IN MY STOCK AIR BOX, AND CUT THE SIDE AWAY FROM ENGINE OUT. THE FIREBIRDS ALREADY HAVE COLD AIR IN THEM, SO USE YOUR MONEY ELSE WHERE.

Here's another

http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/inc/sdetail/1760

The only other alternative is to install one of the aftermarket 'glass hoods with the "WS6 Ram Air (Cold Air)". They give the cleanest & most direct flow to the TB.

Re: Which cold air kit?

I've never really understood this, for the sheer number of 3rd gen's on the road, there's no decent off-the-shelf CAI's?

This is an OTR type (over the radiator) CAI on a LS1 in a commodore sedan. I'm getting pretty tempted to see if I can fit one of these under the hood of the T/A.

I still find it hard to believe there aren't any options other than "make your own", "$300 box with a hole and a SLP sticker", pod filter, or replacing the hood?

Re: Which cold air kit?

I bought one of those eBay ones and am putting a universal K&N 3 inch filter on it. Eventually I am going to build a box for it too. On the 91-92 Firebird's and T/A's I would love to see something that has 2 vents in the fog light and park light vents. Sorta like this:

On both sides though.

Cold air kits didnt become popular until the 4th gen LT1 came out. The thirdgen Camaro and Firebird setups are pretty good for stock stuff. The LT1's were not as good. By the time the cold-air kit market took off, thirdgens were left in the dust. Now there isnt enough interest for someone to build something new and market it with success.

Re: Which cold air kit?

I didnt mess around, I'm into show and a little go.
So the SLP was perfect. Looks awsome and you can feel the difference.
Plus it was easy to install.

That's a good point... I didn't think really of the fact that you've had a lot of engine changes in GM-NA; LB9/L98/L03/L05, LT1/LT4/LT5, LS1/LS6/LS7/LS4/LS2, now LS3

Over the same time period in aus we've had 304/355, LS1/LS2 and L76/L98 V8's in the local sedans.

I'll see if I can measure one of these up sometime, not sure what I'd do about the MAF though, or if there's enough hood clearance.
