top speed limiter removal
Is there a way to get rid of it without having the service light come on? I know, not all 92 models had it. Would I have to get a ECM from one of those cars? Kind of odd that I have it on my Z-28. Dumb thing to do to a sports car.

The AUJP eprom for L98s do not have a speed limiter. Are you sure that the eprom is from an L98? Only 305s w/o Z rated tires got a speed limiter. What is your VIN#?
You can check your epromo by pulling your ECM and looking at the "broadcast code" sticker on your ecm. You should see a bunch of numbers and somewhere there will be an 8 digit number that has 4 letters followed by 4 numbers. You car would have an "AUJP1350"; the replacement from GM is "AUJP1615" for about $60.00.
If your sticker is missing; this would be suspicious but you can still get it by looking at the erpom. Pull it and you should see a "silver square" sticker under one of the openings on the blue cover. If you have to, remove the blue cover. Then you should see the 4 letter/4 number broadcast code.

Yeah, My car originally came with a 305. So if I buy that part from GM it will get rid of it completely? The car also has a electronic speedo.

Thanks, I can't stand topping out at 110mph. Actually I'm so excited that I'm going to get part right now. Just wish there was tracks closer to home.

Depends on the dealership and the taxes in your state/province. Around here one place wanted C$90 (about US$60) without taxes and another (where I use to live) gave me a deal at C$60.00(about US$40)...provided I teach them what I am doing.
Unfortunately it cost $60.00 in gas to get it, but I was visting friends and family, so that was irrelevant (this time).

They could'nt find the part number that you gave me, but they knew what I wanted. So it was'nt too hard to find. It kind of sucks they did'nt have it in stock.

No, Rod has the 5.7 (350). A 350 eprom would tend to run too rich in a 305 and all 350 eproms are for automatics. I believe in 1992, if you car came with V rated tires, it got a speed limiter where as cars equiped with Z rated tires got the eprom without the speed limiter.
Rod, if the memcal does not say AUJP1350 or AUJP1615, don't take it. Also, I would be curious what the "broadcast code" was of your existing eprom. If you remove the ecm their will be a sticker on it which will have a part number starting with 1615xxxx and a 4 letter/4 number "broadcast code".
I should have just pulled my ecm and told you the "Part number".

The part I ordered came out to be the AUJP1350, we were looking for the other part number you gave me. I took out my original, but did'nt right it down. It had ?XXB-????. When I get a chance to take it out I'll post it here.

Okay the original chip is AXXB-3063 w/speed limiter. The part number I ordered was AUJP-1350, and the part I recieved was AUJP-1651. Same part. The car even has little bit more snort. Won't know if it took it away until this spring when I take it to the track. But I'm going to take your word for it. I can't see why it would'nt work. Thanks again.
