Whate crate 350 works with the stock TPI?
Ok, I live in california now (and probably for a while) and with my limited car knowledge, I am confused on what course to take for a engine build up/ replacement.
I have to be emissions legal. I have to replace my engine with another TPI system. Fun california laws.
My car is a 1986 IROC Camaro, 305 TPI "LB9".
I have a question on a 350 crate engine. I wanted to get the "zz4" with the carb originally, but i have to keep my TPI stuff, i figure it would make more sense to get a 350 build which was intake-less. SDPC seems to have good prices on engines, and I noticed they sold an intake-less "330
horsepower 350ci) crate engine, with vortech heads. do vortech heads work with the stock GM TPI plenum? Could i toss on my old 305 TPI system onto that engine? how much will its specs change? i know fuel injection gives slightly better economy, and a bit more torque. Would it lower
the HP down to 260 or so? even less?
Also, If the above combo DOES work, what would you suggest replacing for more performance? a TPIS mini-ram? or just get large runners and a new ported plenum base?
I need to keep things emission legal, and don't have lots of money to drop into a say, LT4 350, and some 5 grand TPI intake combo.
Would i see a noticeable enough increase in power if i just got that 350 vortech crate engine, and tossed my old 305 TPI stuff on it? Would there be a way for me to beef up the TPI portion of the engine in increments afterward? what would i need for a basic swap? just 22# hour injectors? new
PROM?
If anyone has bought or built a 350 for a TPI setup, please tell me specs and prices. I am interested in both. I hope having to stick with my TPI setup won't hinder my goals for performance.
Sorry for the improvised lingo on everything TPI related!
Well, as always, any feedback is appreciated! I still suck and know nothing about cars. but im trying!

A little help for ya, Vortecs wont work, ZZ4 will work and you can look into running your 305 emissions crap on it. All you need is a adjustable pressure reg. to make it run right. headers are a good idea to. Look up TPIS.com they will be willing to fill you in on anything else. Good Luck

the GMPP 92-up caprice crate motor works. thats what i got in my iroc. it's not the fastest, i still gotta get some goodies for it. it does have ***** though. i only paid 1500 and got the 3 year 50,000 mile warrenty

Anything that doesn't have Vortec heads from the ZZ4 qnd down will work nicely. Pick one that fits your budget and reinstall all the emmissions stuff and maybe a new cat/O2 sensor.
