ZZ4 cam paint.
I got my ZZ4 camshaft a few days ago and I noticed the paint is flaky and doesn’t stick well to the cam. I looked at the back and the #'s are all there with 071 part number so I don’t think it’s a fake and why would anyone want to make a fake ZZ4 cam shaft? Anyways I don’t want paint flakes in my engine when I get it running again. So I’m wondering if the paint should be so flaky? And if it should be I’m just going to remove the paint before I put it in.

Are you referring to the paint between the lobes? If you are, you can sand that away. JUST BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO KNICK A LOBE, if you do, you will have far greater problems.

Brush off whatever's lose, rinse off whatever will come free with solvent, and don't worry about it.
