Want to build a hi-torque stump puller

Hey guys,
I'm looking for your inputs on how to approach a really high torque build up. The reality of the way I drive my car is that I never get above 4,000 rpm. I want big block torque from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. Here are my thoughts on the approach. Please let me know what you think and what some of your experiences are.

1) I don't want to sink money into an intake system because I don't need the super high flow numbers to support a high revving, big breathing top end.
2) I think that TFS Twisted Wedge heads would be a good idea because using aluminum would allow an additional point in the compression ratio, increasing torque and HP across the RPM range.
3) Stroking to 383 would add the cubes to support the low end grunt.

I already have an upgraded ignition and exhaust and all of the low cost tricks.

With a 383 and TFS heads, would the (now) small cam and intake lead to better torque? I don't care about high RPMs. I'm not drag racing.

Also, I wouldn't want to do mods much beyond $2K or I would rather go ahead and Procharge it!

Thanks guys!
Dennis

Get a jeg's catalog and for $899 or $929 you can get a full 383 assembly. pg.18
That's for flat pistons if you want inverted dome it's $250 more. Comes with everything rings, clevite bearings, balancer, flexplate, cast steel crank, steel rods, KB pistons. A 383 can spank a BB if built right.

Hope you got a 4 bolt main your gonna need it. If not spend the $200 for an aftermarket set to convert the 2 to 4, it's on the same page.

Add alum heads and your approaching $2000 unless you can get a cheap set. Maybe try Holley? I'm lookin for a good (cheap) set of alum heads to port also, let me know if you find some.

Not sure if you'd want to run a higher compression on a 383 though. You might want to ask a good shop. 10:1 seems fine to me. Make a tight quench on it and you'll be good to go.

One more thing build the heads for low lift flow. If you really want to get serious get afr heads.

For $799 you can get a COMPLETELY BALANCED 383 kit from Powerhouse out of California! It comes with a NEW flex plate, NEW balancer, and BRAND NEW 383 Stroker Crankshaft too!! Their phone number is (661) 861-0167 and their email address is powerplant@lightspeed.net .....their web site address is www.enginekits.com but you won't find anything useful on there..just the info I already gave you!!

The 383 kit in mention comes with Speed Pro Hypereutectic flat top Pistons (uses 5.7 rod press pin) 9.17:1 compression (using 76cc heads) 10.3:1 compression (using 64cc heads), moly rings, rod bearings, main bearings, brand new (2pc seal) 383 Stroker crankshaft, CR3 rods w/arp bolts, new flex plate, new balancer. Only $799 including their high tech balancing!

The above kit is the one I'm getting ....sounds like a sweet deal to me!!

They have another kit too, similar to this one that's cheaper....but it's 10.7 compression with 64cc heads which is approaching the non-pump gas zone!
