accel coil....problems with missing

i finally got around to installing my remote accel coil. after i put it on, i took it for a test drive and it was missing, mostly on light throttle conditions but it sometimes backfires when upshifting. i rechecked to make sure the wires were securely on and routed away from the coil itself.

has anyone else had a problem with accel coils. i haven't heard the greatest things about accel products in the past. i am goin to reinstall my old coil and see if it goes away (which i am sure it will) but i was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with there coils. thanks, Ian

Are you sure you didn't wire up the coil backwards?

I've had one for a while and have never had any problems with it. Take it back and get a new one and hopefully everything will be ok after that.

Well, here is what happened to me with my Accel Supercoil long time ago. The problem with these coils is that the lead wires are really close to the Coil-Dist. wire and many times they will arch and cause a real bad missfire. I can bet this is happening to you too. The best way to check this is at night, when it's really dark, you will see sparks jumping; but don't touch it, or you will learn a valuable experience!

f22 raptor, i was kinda wondering about that myself. after the first intial test drive i rerouted my wires to where they weren't quite as close to the distributor. i will relocate it and try it again and see what happens. thanks.

Well, I was talking about the lead wires and the wire from the coil to the distributor. This is where I had my problems. But of course, any wire that touches each other could arch if the spark plug wires are bad.

That damn Accel coil left me stranded up in cottage country! It blew after only 6000km's WTF. Piece of crap! Replaced with new stock unit and has been going strong for 15,000km. Can't beat stock components for reliability! A company like 'Pontiac' has got a lot more $$$ for R&D .. much more so than Accel, MSD and the like. Go with stock, it doesn't make any difference with mileage or HP.
DONE!
