305 tpi swap to 383 stroker
Whats up guys
I am a newcomer and I have a question about the motor I just recently put in my car (87 z28). Everything is hooked up (all connectors except egr, coolant sensor on front of intake and coolant sensor on lower passenger side of block) eagle stroker kit, holley high rise intake, trick flow heads, and comp cams cam, only problem is that the motor will not start all the time and has a problem idling when it does. I have messed around with the timing, fuel pressure etc.. I have had several master certified techs look at it, still can't find the problem. Could it just be that the cam and demand for fuel is too much? Any suggestions?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
You're lacking a lot of details, such as the cam grind, what carb, what distributor, where's the timing set, what's the fuel pressure.
But, unless the fuel pump is dying, you can be pretty sure it isn't fuel demand.

the timing is set at 15 degrees because thats what i was told by the company that built the motor. I just discovered recently that the MAF, Burn off and Fuel pump relays under the hood have melted connectors, the fuel pump can be heard coming on but the injectors dont seem to be pulsing. the grind number of the cam is CS 290H-R12 and it is comp cams part number 08-306-8. the distributor is msd 8366. It is a tpi motor, and the cold start switch cannot be plugged in due to the position of the alternator, could that be my main problem with starting? I also dont have a fuel pressure gauge with the right adapter for my fuel rails I am trying to get my hands on one now.

TPI with a Holley high-rise intake?
Some things aren't adding up here. Why did the alternator change position just from putting in a 383? Why 15 degrees timing (did the motor guys know this was TPI?)?

Re: 305 tpi swap to 383 stroker
the sensor on the intake changed location and now the stock location of the alternator doesnt work. the intake is the stealth ram. when the sensor is jumped with a test light the car will start, it started today with the mass air flow unplugged, Does calibration of the mass airflow sensor play that much of a role? I am not sure why they told me 15 degrees, should it be 5 or 6 like a normal motor?

Re: 305 tpi swap to 383 stroker
the connector looks like one for an injector, except its on the front of the intake, i looked it up in the parts catalogue and it is called the cold start switch, with the cold start switch grounded and the mass air unplugged the car will run but not well, does/can the mass air be reprogrammed to fit the motor or do I have to go aftermarket?
