HELP! question about 02 sensor/fouled plugs...

Car is ZZ4TPI, 24# injectors, MSD6AL, 1 5/8 headers. Noticed the car running crappy last night. Pulled 1-3-5-7 plugs, kinda dirty, maybe an over-rich condition. pulled 2-4-6-8, completely black. Since the O2 sensor is on the 1-3-5-7 side, could this have something to do with it? I did have to lengthen the wire on the O2 sensor to clear the headers. I've heard this screws up the sensor. I cleaned the plugs and want to fix the root cause rather then run it today and have to clean the plugs again.
I'm betting O2 sensor. I didn't pull any codes out of the computer, I hit my battery kill switch to do the plugs before I could.

You should lengthen the wire on the wire harness and not the length of the O2 sensor wire itself.

Sounds rich to me on both sides. Do you have a scan tool to see what the O2 readings are and crosscounts?
Crosscounts should cycle from 0-255 in under 90 seconds, if not, then you have a weak O2. As far as the wire, whether the wiring harness or the connector wire is lengthen, I don't think it matters, wire is wire no matter where it is added.
Maybe fuel pressure too high, do you have an adj fp reg? Any exhaust leaks before the O2 sensor, that can cause the O2 to see a lean condition and make it run richer.

Unfortunately no scan tool. Had a friend over the other day from the SeThirdgen board. He's a GM Tech. We think it may be a faulty adj FPR. It seems to stick sometimes, i.e. I turn to adjust the pressure and see no change on the gage. If I move it far enought it will jump eventually. Probably gonna get a new adj FPR and see if that does the trick.
I had thought that adding wire to the O2 sensor might add unwanted impedance or resitance to the signal coming from the sensor.
tks

If I'm not mistaken the sensor wire is of a different type.(alamel or chromal wire) Lengthening or shortening of that wire WILL cause a faulty reading.
