A question about the vats, when its deactivated

i was wondering if you were to deactivate the vats in the computer, should i just install another vats ignition cylinder but use the key that it comes with since they dont have the resistor in them or just get an ignition cylinder that isnt vats equipped and cheaper??? i dont what i should do.. thanks in advance for you help..

Re: A question about the vats, when its deactivated

This question would be more appropriate in the Electronics forum, you'd get more answers there.

If you delete VATS from the ECM calibration module (chip), you won't need the VATS key or VATS cylinder. You can install an older cylinder, no problem.

One word of advice, though. VATS also controls the Starter Enable relay. If you switch to a non-VATS cylinder and key, VATS won't activate the Starter Enable relay and you won' tbe able to start. You'd need to bypass that relay.

Hope this helps.

if you kill VATS in the ECM and you bypass the starter relay... then you can start your car however you want.

also, i could start your car with nothing more then a brick or other large rock.(seriously)

the only excuse to remove VATS is ignorance.

MrDude is right, once the VATS is removed, the car can be started with a brick.

And he's also right that VATS removal should be thought through very well (although he said it a little harsher ). After all, it IS called "Vehicle ANTI-THEFT System".
