I also have the BBK58mm and it whistles, but quietly. I also was concerned of possible false air or leaks but a guy that I know thought a slight whistle at idle or just above was okay.

Did you make sure to connect the vaccum hose to the underside of the throttle body? I have a BBK 52mm on my car and when I had first put it on, there was a loud whistle, almost sounded like a supercharger while driving, but I noticed that I had forgotten to re-connect the hose on the bottom. After I put the hose on, the throttle body makes no more noise other than it seems that the intake sucks alot harder when it is first started, after setting a while. I suppose the 58mm could be a little different, but I doubt it. Good luck...

I have the stock throttle body on my car but made a homemade old air intake that leaves the air filter completely exposed rather than in that big bulky box GM puts it in. I also ported my plenum. Now, when the car's cold and the idle's higher, you can barely hear yourself think anytime you're standing within 10 feet of the car with the hood up, that's how loud the intake noise is. From inside the car, with the hood closed, you can detect a whistle, but not nearly as bad. Now I know why GM put those silencers on from the factory. They may kill performance but I can't imagine John Q. Public living with that intake noise day in and day out.
I imagine with the amount of air your 58mm throttle body is pulling in, you're going to hear all kindsof noise too.

I have a 52mm BBK T.B. that makes a loud sucking sound when I fire it up.
I heard all BBK's do this.
