Having vacuum problems after intake modification for perimeter bolt heads
Has anyone had any vacuum problems after changing to perimeter style heads on with an 87 and up intake. I drilled the 4 center holes on the intake and installed angled shims I purchased from professional products. This is all good, but I have had nothing but problems.
I first tried to use the Felpro 1205 gasket as recommended by the head manufacturer and that resulted in coolant leaks and vacuum problems all over the intake. I have now went back to the standard TPI intake felpro gasket and I now seem to be having problems with the area around the 4 center holes that I drilled. I have retorqued the longer bolts and am still having issues.
Has anyone else had this same problem? If so what was your solution or what do you think should be my next move? I don't want to replace my intake gasket as I know this install was perfect.
My car will not idle and runs like it is missing. I have verified the vacuum leak by spraying carb cleaner at the intake and when it hits the holes the engine surges and the idle comes up. Typical for a leak. I am about to just give up and purchase the edelbrock intake from Jegs, but I don't want to spend another $400.
Thanks for the help!
