Most auto part stores sell a distributor wrench that is bent in a "L" shape and is designed to get at the hold down bolt.
Some kits come with two, 1/2" and 9/16". The other end of the wrench fits a standard 3/8" drive ratchet.
If the store sells more than one kind, get the more expensive (hardened) one with 12 points because the cheaper ones can strip over time and won't loosen the bolt ay longer.
Fortunately for me I can reach mine in the 86 Vette with an open end 9/16".
I installed a stud and nut too so as not to run the risk of stripping out the manifold threads.

I bought a dist. wrench, BUT, the way it is bent, it sits between the fuel rail and something else. This car runs a 14.5 with 8* retarded timing, and some other probs. Help me get it to run right!!! Thanks for the help so far.

I use a long (about 10" or 12") extension off a ratchet or breaker bar with a crow's foot...

Blade,
If you have a 350 TPI, what I do is remove the front bolt that holds the ignition coil and then loosen the rear bolt so that I can pivot the coil out of the way. This allows room to get to the distributor hold down bolt, using the distributor wrench.
