Is the 56cc CC and 175cc intake decent for the L98 or is the 62cc 195 a better head to go with....By the way i will be running a Lt4 hot cam

What headers are you using? What intake manifold?

Most people get the Trick Flow 195's. Keep in mind you will need a custom chip to use that camshaft.

i got the hooker 2055's and the asm mandifold and runners....i know it will run without a tune...but i will have it tuned soon enough....this is with an 89 l98 mass air....less than 10k on full rebuild

whats would be better to do....the heads first....or a superram intake....the Lt4 hot cam is already in..

The heads first. You dont want to have to mess with installing the SuperRam intake twice.

I have them on mine. I used a GM L31 shortblock with the 56 cc heads for approx a 10.0:1 motor. The castings are nice...the valvetrain? Not so much. I found 8 of the 16 inner valve springs were broken when I pulled the valve covers this spring. There is a reason why they are so inexpensive.

whats a good head that wont cost me and arm and a leg...i dont care if they are aluminum...as long as they flow good

Since I was using the stock cam with 1.6 rr's I was ok with their smaller springs. Maybe the upgraded springs are of better quality...I don't know. As I said, the castings are nice, I just wasn't happy about installing 16 new valvesprings after about 2000 miles!

I have a set of the first gen trick flows and I believe they are the best head in my opinion. From the casting to the way the valves are positioned are all ways that help you more efficiently make power. It is like having a hemi head for your chevy. Now I know they changed the casting from the first gen because it wasn't a true bolt on but for the money you cant go wrong. Can you overload the spring? Of course.

Everything needs to be matched for its application. When it comes to which cc head you want to get depends on how much compression you want to make. There are other factors like deck height and what type of head gasket that also comes into play when calculating compression.

As far as order of operations, I have to agree with Kevin in saying that heads before the intake. My policy is work bottom up. This becomes more crucial the more radical your setup gets.

You have to ask yourself... what do you want to do with the car? Whats your goal? How much do you feel comfortable spending?

Ok this is kinda off subject....But i am going with the LT4 hotcam....I was just wondering...ive seen some videos of cars running it...some cars have sounded sweet...to where others dont even sound like they have a cam in it at all.. but they all claim to be running a Lt4 hot cam anyone know whats up with that

Update: i got the Trickflow 195's # TFS-30410006 with the 1.470 springs...and the LT4 hot cam.....Is stock replacement push rods and lifters goin to be fine or do i need to get performance ones

There is no way for us to know what length pushrods you will need. You'll need to get a pushrod length checker.

You should get hardened pushrods for use with guideplates. Manley sells some good ones.

To check, bring your motor to tdc for the #1 and put your stock push rods in. Before you put the rocker arms on, mark the top of your valve stems with black marker. Then put your rockers on adjust them where there is no lash. Turn the motor over 2 revolutions which is both intake and the exhaust opening and closing twice to get a good wear mark. Then pull the rockers off and check to see where your mark is. If you are at the center then you are good using those stockers. If your closer to the exhaust side or the intake side I would get a set of adjustables and repeat the process till you get that mark closer to the center of the valve stem. This is an important step and shouldn't be rushed.

can anyone tell me what my compression ratio will be....Im gettin speed pro forged pistons....flat top with 4 valve reliefs...it says 9.60:1 with 64cc heads....what will mine be with 62cc....

I'm assuming a lot here, like using a .049" head gasket, but you would have appx 9.9:1 compression.

hi just for reference i'm running .061 felpro mls head gasket with 64cc edlebrock performer heads and i'm at 9.5:1 comp ratio (just so i can run low octane gas) but get a caliper and do the measurements. do a seach for the calculators its worth it. when you choose your pistons make sure they are light or you'll never rev fast. also get the good springs in the heads or you'll be taking them apart alot if you beat on it. well that's my two cent, good luck
