ALDL connector

Where in the world would I find a mating connector for the U.S. 12 pin ALDL connector under the steering wheel?

John, I might have an idea on how to make one. It involves a spare cover from a junkyard, a handful of paper clips, and a solderable perf-board (circuit board with copper solder pads on it) from Radio Shack.

The paper clips should be straightened out. Very tiny holes could be drilled into the cover, across from each pin-hole, to accept the paper-clips. The paper clips should be inserted through the cover far enough so they go into the ALDL when the cover's on.

Next, the perf-board is placed (taped temporarily?) over the outside of the ALDL cover, while it's plugged in. This would place the paperclip wires "through" the holes in the circuit board. Then the paperclips could be soldered onto the board, and the excess cut off.

Actually the perfboard could probably then be cut to fit "inside" the ALDL cover piece! (The paper clip wires might need to have 1/8 inch trimmed off the ends.) The perfboard could then be screwed into the ALDL cover.

Maybe I should make one for kicks and scan in some pictures.

Sounds good for a temp connector, I am looking for something as professional as possable.

I once made one from one of those $20 "code scanners" from Wal-Mart. I gutted it and put my homemade interface cable components inside it. Cost is a little high though, looking for something a little cheaper.
