Rich problem and timing issue
Ok heres the skinny. 350,224/230 110, ported heads, slightly ported intake. It has a hawks thirdgen tune. What is base timing first off and how do i set it? Do i unplug the one wire connector and set it with it unplugged and thn plug it in or what? I hve never set timing on a tpi. I searched the timign thread it wasnt helpful to my problem. We thought it was set right we got it running good at idle then today just had trouble starting and ran very rich. Regardless if timing is my issue in that aspect i would mainly like to know how to set Base timing on these cars. Next up, can my stock maf's fault that it is rich, and will the granatelli adjustable maf benefit me at all?
Thanks guys

You unplug the wire with the engine off. Base timing should be 6 advanced. Shut off the engine and plug it in. If your car is running rich its either a problem with the tune or something else like bad oxygen sensor. I wouldnt count on a maf to fix the rich condition.

Re: Rich problem and timing issue
i can help you, answer these first...is there a check engine code?how do u know that its running rich ?did u just replace the engine?if there i a code present,do u know how to blink test the ecm without a scanner?what is the main reason you are needing to adjust the timing?did u remove the distributor, are you on top dead center when installed?let me know.there are about 5 things that can cause your to run rich.tps sensor, mat sensor, maf if vehicle equipped,o2 sensor, map sensor, and also the tempature sensor under the throttle body.if u need to diagnose how to check codes i can explain to u in detail....

Re: Rich problem and timing issue
Let me first start by saying, i fixed it. Secondly, I work at a performance shop, so the motor was built right, installed right as well as timing was set correctly. Thanks for the help guys it turned out to be the Tune. I got a tune from hawks ,this morning for kicks and ***** i decided to stick in the stock chip. Bitch ran like a champ.
