PLEASE HELP GUYS!!
I am in desperate need of help with my tpi car. It is a 1990 IROC with the LB9.
I was just driving at around 40 mph the other day and all of the sudden the SES light came on and my car chugged for a little then died. I tried restarting it and it kept chugging and I had to give it at least half throttle to keep it idled, it was puking black smoke so I just figured the timing was too retarded so it was running rich. The car was around 220 degrees btw
I let it sit for about 15 minutes and it started right up I drove it home immediately.
I ran the codes and received codes:
43 or ESC/knock sensor
45 or rich o2 sensor
53 system overcharge.
My dad is ASE certified and just thought that the knock sensor was bad after checking the ohm reading as it was not to correct specs.
This still does not solve the problem.
We have tryed many simple things to try and fix it with a stroke of luck.
The thing is It will not do it while just sitting and let idle. As soon as i start driving it and get on the highway and up to around 220 it starts running like **** and the SES light comes on w/ the same codes every time. When this happens I try to keep it at a steady idle and get a 6 degrees advanced timing reading so it cant be the knock sensor retarding the timing
I have already checked the mem-cal and it was positioned correctly.
I am completely dumbfounded guys, If you have any ideas or experience linking these codes together to one problem PLEASE HELP
I would really appreciate it

I bet your MAF sensor died, same thing happened to me a while back, but before you go spending 200 on a new MAF, check your relays and make sure they didnt go bad, since they are only like 6 bucks

Not from me, I am not as familiar with the MAPs make sure nothing is stuck in your intake
I did have the same problem with my MAF, I was running way too rich, coated my injectors with carbon, then I couldnt get anything to work. Check your injectors, then make sure your intake is clear and you dont have any leaks in your vacuum lines.

I had a similar problem with my sons car. After changing a whole bunch of stuff I replaced the ECM and it ran perfect. YOu can get a rebuilt one for like $80 after the core charge. Even if it doesn't solve the problem you will have one for when it does go out.

So it's running pig rich at times ..... I am thinking hooking it up to a scanner while it's doing this would be of great value . Your Dad is a mechanic right . So take it to the shop when it's doing this . Codes can help you out , but they may be just indicators of other stuff.
