need help with H/C choice L98
I am going to be pulling my engine pretty soon (income tax) and doing a rebuild. Probly just use stock crank and rods with forged pistons. Id like to get around 300HP to the wheels out of it and then add a 100 shot for the track.
My main question is will the stock heads be capable of this with a port and larger valves installed? OR would i be best with going with something aftermarket?
I will be running a Lt1 intake and would also like suggestions on cams. I really want a big cam but mostly just for the lumpy idle. Sorry it just sounds awsome hehe.
Any suggestion would be great

The money you will spend rebuilding and porting your stock heads will be much better spent on a set of aftermarket aluminum heads. Good heads include Edelbrocks, Trick Flows, and the new AFR Eliminators. Also make sure you replace the stock TPI intake with the one from Edelbrock. Its the least expensive at $400 and they're all made by Edelbrock now. It really makes a difference.
For a camshaft, a "lumpity" camshaft will be a mismatch for the TPI intake. It will also require extensive custom chip tuning to keep the computer happy and to get better gas mileage and the most power. Good cams that wont make the computer unhappy are in the 210-220 intake duration range with 112-114 lobe separation angle (LSA). Do not get a cam with 110 LSA for a street car. Trust me on this.
