stock air intake restrictors

someone told my son on his 1986 Z28, if you cut out the tube restrictors on the air intake on his car, he would see an improvement. It's the plastic piece molded into the air intake, under both the driver and passenger air breathers....any input, if so, just cut it out???

thanks in advance!

Your not talking about those deflectors on the bottom of the airbox are you? Those are for repelling water to keep them from getting soaked. I modded my airbox already and cut the bottom almost completly out, but I am doing a ram-air setup at the foglights. I drove it around like that (haven't setup the ram-air) and didn't notice any improvment. Just made a loud hissing sound from the front (it was kinda cool).

Removing restrictions is a good thing, but won't do much good if it's sucking hot engine bay air.

Got a pic?

it's just below the stock air breathers, I agree and didn't think about the water part, but makes sence..

I cut the plastic things out from under the airbox, I didn't notice a huge improvement, but its better than before. As for water, I drove through the rain not long after doing it, and I pulled the air lid and checked the filters afterwards and they had no water whatsoever on them. My 2 cents.

Same for me as danjanIROCZ didn't notice much but no water. I also set up the "ram air" behind the foglights

I based my response on what's in your sig, and "under both the driver and passenger air breathers", there's only one air box with 2 filters in MPFI Camaros.
The 406 isn't in this Camaro is it?

The bottom baffles of the stock air box are meant to keep stuff like leaves from blocking air flow into the filters.
As long you don't change the filter elevation rain/splash water isn't a problem if you cut the baffles off.
