IAC question 88 TPI
Quick question on the 88 firebird TPI 5.7 if the IAC is removed from the wiring will that cause the engine to die?
Engine starts then dies about 3 seconds after starting. Does it send a signal to the ECU? I have tried searching in FAQ and threads and can`t find much info on the IAC other than function in controling idle. not if it is needed to let the engine run. Thanks!!

It doesn't send a signal but the ecu expects it to be open a certain amount. It then operates the fuel at that expectation.

That might explain the engine dying, I don`t have a IAC valve screwed into the intake. too much air for the idle fuel mix. still waiting for one to arrive, thats the bad part of living in rural Arkansas hard to get parts quickly.

I know what you mean.Living in the woods is great until you need something. One time I came out to go to work and the battery was dead.the nearest parts store was 15 miles away. It's nice to have friends.Hopefully your part will come in soon.
