Camshaft help for my 87 irocz 350

Hey i need some help am looking to swap the factory cam out of my 350 tpi and get a good high performance one that will work well with the car,the stuff i have done to the car is full exhaust and headers, and reworked ported heads, high stall torque converter, bigger injectors/adjtble regulator. Many people told me i should go with the lt4 hotcam, but i feel its way to much lift @ 525,am looking for something that will give me a noticable loopy rough idle in my 350 and something that will work well throughout the rpm's ,thanks alot help would be greatly appreciated

The LT4 cam is much too big for the engine you have right now. I have it in my TPI, but I have the heads and ported intake, etc to put it to somewhat good use. I would stay around 212-216 on the intake and 220-224 on the exhaust, especially if you can not do your own tuning.

I put a 350 cam in my 305, I love it! It sounds awsome with a nice exhaust. All my #'s are in my Sig. Dont forget new springs....and you might as well change the valves seals too while your in there.

check out thunder racings' cam choices for us TPI guys. very good cams.
Thunder Racing - Camshafts for your 1982-1992 F-Body

anything from the 300 to the 305 grinds would be good for your application

if you want to stay away from computer tuning check out the crane cams on the bottom of the page. only the first choce from the comp section is with stock tuning.

Check out chevy performance parts zz4 cam(same cam in the zz4 crate motor with 355hp), can be used without computer tuning, but tuning would really help achieve it's full potential. Good idle with a slight lope and great power throughout the rpm band. You can pick up a take out cam for around $130 if you look around.

The 214/220 (104224) that you have would be good for him.

it depends on the lift of the cam, and what your head can take.

the cam will not come with lifters. Just use your stock ones. Also unless its some sort of kit, it will not come with a timing chain. I researched for about a month before I made my decission.....speciallt sence I have a 305. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE MATCHING SPRINGS! That is a must. You cant use your stock ones....well you can but you might be taking it back apart after awhile.

Never had it to the track, I'm having transmission problems. Its not shifting 2-3 at WOT. So that will give me something to work on in the winter. On the Dyno, I never got a print out when they tuned my ECM. They said it was 211hp at the rear wheels. They did all the pulls in 2nd gear. But it was on a mustang dyno which they said reads 15% lower then the more common dyno machines around. I dont know much about Dyno machines, but it sure feels like more then 211hp. I know my car stock was only 190hp at the motor. The bottom end has 100,000 miles on it. It runs great for a 305....so as far as realistic #'s I really dont know. But you can see everything I've done to it so far. I'll take it to the track sometime next year. So I will know what I will run in the 1/4 mile in 2007. I will also have it on the dyno machine again for a re-tune in the spring...theres a couple bugs they need to work out for me.

If you have the money and valve to piston clearence availible I would go with a pair of 1.6 roller rockers. If not at least go with a pair of 1.5 roller tipped rockers and new springs. New springs are inexpensive. used roller rockers are also cheap on ebay and the classifieds.
