Lots of Q's on my Iroc-z
First off....what do you guys/gals think it may run in the quarter mile? Mods in signature. With yokohomo tires(245's) & stock suspension??
Second.....Anyone running long tube headers? What 02 sensor are you running? What precautions have you taken to protect the wire from the heat of the headers? I put a new one on and the check engine light flashed once already. 02 sensor code flashing cause a bad 1/4 mile pass? Also is my car loud because of the long tube headers or the muffler?
Third....I believe the car doesn't have a thermostat. It never really gets that hot. Sometimes it has gotten close to 220...but it has to run forever and ever. Is this something that is going to cause me problems at the track? Will the car not run its best if its not up to temp(say 170*)? Most the time when the car is running it is around the first hash mark on the stock gauge.
Fourth....What MAF screen are you suppose to take out to help performance? Air cleaner side or plenum side?
Fifth......Is there a benefit to running without your driving lights, thought I read something that it gives a ram air effect without them?
Sixth.....Where should the tranny be shifting at? Mine seems like it shifts to soon at WOT. Like 4200 rpm?
Seventh...How much of a difference is a RV cam then the stock cam(automatic car)?
Eigth...Any good tips on drag racing with TPI? RPM's at launch? Keep the car is drive, not OD, I am assuming? Warm the street tires or just line up and run?
Ninth....Is there anything that you see that would be a great benefit to my car? A mod I am missing or that should be done by this point? I know the plenum and runners need to be ported sometime, but anything else?
Sorry for the book, believe it or not I have been doing tons of searches. I just want to hear some feedback on my specific car. Thanks for any advice or help. Thanks, Nick.

first off THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN RV CAM OR 3/4 RACE CAM!!!! i hate when people think there is.... first off what are your mods now.... second warranty the o2 sensor out..... when i race i bring the stall up to full potential and hammer down when the light turns green.... i manually shift mine.... but if i were you i would keep it in D not OD while racing...... i shift around 5k

2.....Buy a heated O2 sensor and run the wire in a heat reflecting cover. You can find out how to hookup the heated O2 by doing a search.
3.....Put a thermostat in that thing!
4.... Leave that MAF alone
5.... I know it will flow more through the radiator.
6..... Our cars shift early so you should shift it right before the power drop off.
7.....Any cam described as an RV cam should probibly be dumped. Get a cam that matches your car and you will have better results.

Mods that are in my signature are the ones I have either identified on the car or was told what was done to it. Thermostat and heated 02 sensor, sounds like they are my next thing to do to her.
"second warranty the 02 sensor out" What?
TIA, Nick.

What RPM's should I be pushing at 60MPH, 70 MPH? I think my speedo is off? I am getting passed a lot on the highway. 60 MPH is like 1800 RPM's on my stock tach. -Nick.

It was a new 02 sensor I had sitting here from a previous car. Uses the same one.
I have both options of the G80 and G92 on my RPO sticker. The 10 bolt is still underneath the b!tch. So, according to this chart: https://www.thirdgen.org/1987-chevy-camaro
I should have 3.23's? What should my car be runnning RPM wise at 60 mph if it did have 3.23's? I know she is posi for sure.

Might my rpm's be off from the tranny being rebuilt? Maybe they changed the gearing in the tranny?

lol, try keeping in in 1st gear (the shifter) and put the hit the throttle.....DONT TOUCH THE SHIFTER! I bet it shifts by itself at 5500 rpms!
In my 87 TA I had the 2.72 stock.....3.73 = much better! Look at my profile, and check out that cam I have. I love it!

Leave the screens on the MAF.
I have a 3.27 rear and I'm turning about 2800 at 75. That's my normal "cruising speed".
With an automatic/700r4, you should let the tranny shift itself. At WOT, you shouldn't be able to outshift a properly operating tranny. If it shifts early, first thing I'd do would be to adjust the TV cable on the plenum.

I have an 87 iroc with the G92 option, so its the 3.23 posi rear. The previous owner told me that he looked at the rear end and counted the gears and they were the 3.23's.
So, maybe my tach is off or my tranny has something different in it then stock? Thanks, Nick.

Are you positive about it shifting on its own, if left in 1st? I've never heard such a thing...

Read up on the 700r4, its a safety valve in the transmission.
And yes, with my 2.72's I was around 1800 rpm at 80mph in 4th gear. I love my 3.73 gear. Its the best all around gear.
