CAM OPINION PLEASE

hello everyone i have a basic 1989 gta trans am auto.... i wanna port pleneum and basic stuff for the top end, but i wanna change the cam, i read on here someone said to get a cam that is good all the way up too 6000 rpm... any suggestions and how would i find out if i have vortec heads, or is it not a stock option. please some assistance would be appreciated!

if you have stock TPI, even with mild port jobs on everything, i would get a cam that has power up to 5000rpms. thats all the higher u can go. zz4 is a good cam that works well with stock computer but its alittle mild.

LPE 216 cam is a great choice as well. works good with stock computer and gives more top end power as well as midrange. although tuning will be necessary to really bring out all the potential of any cam including this one

vortec heads were not an option on our cars. they are found on the newer truck motors and gm crate motors. they are decent heads for the price...but stock TPI manifolds and most aftermarket ones wont bolt to it. you need the vortec TPI manifold

The LT4 hot cam with 1.6 rockers would make lots of power too, but you'd definitely have to do some prom tuning to run it effectively.
