FI to Carb - Do I Need The Computer
hey guys, if I'm swapping out my FI for a carberated setup, is there any reason to keep the stock wiring harness and computer? its an 86 iroc orignally equipped with a 305 TPI.
My fans are all hardwired, I would be getting a new distributor, and thats all I can think of that runs off the computer. All i need for a carbed motor is the starter hooked up to the ignition correct?

thats what I figured, i just might've thought I was missing something...
but another quick question, for a distributor, anything that is vacuum advanced will work right? i'm looking at the MSD pro billet w/vacuum adavance, will that work? also i want the RPM airgap intake, i believe there are only 2 available, one for vortecs and one for everything else, correct? I have aluminum L98 heads, the one that says not for 87-later cast iron heads..right?

Check out my sig for my combo.
I went with the ProBillit without vaccum advance. I am also running the RPM airgap with a comp 282hr cam.

I have a Holley 3310 750vs that I have raced in the past I am using. I ended up with both carbs and already have the holley dialed in. Plus the holley has notch floats, jet extensions, rear metering plate and quickfuel adjustable secondaries.
I got the Demon from a friend that bought it new from summit. His motor went south within 20 miles with the carb on it. Plus im in need of some DOT tires or slicks. I cant hook up with the new setup!!!!

yea i was gonna say, you should be in low 12 range...with a carb I should be doing what your doing with decent tires
are there any advantages of going with vacuum secondaries over a double pumper?

Well it is a little easier at the gas pumps. They also work ok with a auto trans.
If it is going to be a track only car, I would say go with a Holley HP carb. If it is going to street strip, you can go with VS or DP.
I will eventually change over to a HP. It should pick my car up by a couple of tenths.
Oh yeah, The 12.83 with 1.84 60ft times was at 92* high humidity, crappy track conditions, and spinning for 10-12 feet off the line.
I can make you a great deal on the carb if you are interested. Pics are at my cardomain site. car pictures and photos at CarDomain.com

well i just found out that a kid that lives near by wants my HSR setup, and he has a nice carb setup, I"m going to see what he has, and maybe we'll work out a trade...
that carb looks nice, as much as I would like to buy it, i have to get rid of my stealth ram setup first..

I know how that is. I really need better tires, but need to sell the carb first!lol.
If things fall through with your neighbor, pm me if you want to talk about the carb. Im negotiable in price and would consider trades.
Good luck with the swap, I started with TBI then to TPI, then to carb!

In my experience I have to agree that a vacuum secondary Holley works best with an auto trans. My brother tried running a 650 double pumper with a TH350 trans, and it bogs going into the secondaries no matter what we tried. However a car with a manual trans works beautiful with a mechanical secondary double pumper carb. I'm running a 650 DP with a muncie 4 speed in my 69 camaro, and it screams! The MSD pro billet HEI with an adjustable vacuum advance would be a really sweet distributor to run with your setup.
